Red-necked Phalarope at West Ashby

After being given permission to go onto the private land I visted the site on Thursday morning arriving at 09:30, meeting up with Dean Eades and RussTelfer. The field was very wet and forgeting my boots was the theme of this week which you will also find out about when I went to Donna Nook on Saturday. The Phalarope showed well and is a stunning bird. I feel priviledged to have spent time and to photograph this beauty. The site is now shut down no acces to the field as there are Cattle in it. Viewing from the road is allowed.

 

 

Pectoral Sandpiper, Toft Reservoir 18/09/2012

With news of a Pectoral sandpiper showing well confirmed by Dean this morning. I drove off to Toft Newton Reservoir, I have never been before but it was quite easy to find thankfully. On arrival I could see Dean on the other side of the reservoir, Walking round to him it rained, Hard! So after drying off and a coffee (Thanks Dean) we headed bac to the Pec Sand. The bird showed fantastically! came within half a metre of me. The best bird I have photographed and it came with a Dunlin aswell ! An awesome day topped off by a sparrowhawk and the Fudge duck at Far Ings. Going back tomorrow for more!

Yorkshire for 2 days Little gull shots

I went to Yorkshire for two days in search of arctic warbler and a day at Spurn point. I dipped on the Arctic Warbler and there wasn't much around at all. So I went to Hornsea Mere to Photograph Little Gulls which went quite well before being thrown off site. Next day I spent at Spurn it was a good day. Great Skua (Lifer), Arctic Skua, Peregrine, Merlin, Hobby, Black Tern, Little Gull, Arctic Tern, Common Tern, Sandwich Tern, Med Gull, Siskin, Winchat, Stonechat, Red Throated Diver, Fulmar, Gannet, Gadwall and Avocet.

Gib Point and Frampton Marsh.

A trip planned on what the weatherman said was sunny all day. He was wrong suprise suprise. Started early arriving at Gibraltor point at 8:00 am. I searched for the Pectoral Sandpiper, succesfully locating the bird whilst in the North hide. Also present 2 Spotted Redshank another lifer for myself. 5 Spoonbill, 22 Greenshank, 9 eider, Flocks of Common Scotter, 1 Green Sandpiper, 6 Snipe among other stuff. Then onto Frampton for the Red-necked Phalarope another lifer for me present on the scrapes, My first views of the bird also saw another Pectoral sandpiper in the same view, with Wood Sandpiper in the scope aswell! Also around Pintail, Curlew Sandpiper, Wigeon, Avocet and Little Egret. I then went home Via Covenham Res just for Common Sandpiper to make it 5 Sandpipers in one day ! Also a Sandwich Tern my first at Covenham. Life list now at 218.

I have never seen any pictures of snails or slugs from any of my photography friends from all over the world so I thought I would represent the slimmy snails of our gardens. Also a few Moth shots. I learnt last night that butterfly's are now under the catergory of moths! You learn something new everyday! I found mating Damselflies around the field of brigsley so snapped them while I could.

Recent Bird Photos

Very quiet at the minute bird wise, very little to photograph with little to see aswell. Recently went to Alkborough Flats to look for the Ruddy Shelduck a lifer for me and 3 Spoonbill that were there, Ruddy Shelducks were very smart and Spoonbills were distant to say the least. A couple of trips to Covenham provided some nice Dunlin, Arctic Tern and 5 Common Sandpiper.
